NFI Partners with Daimler Trucks North America for Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet
30th June, 2018
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - June 28, 2018 -- NFI, a leading supply chain solutions provider, will partner with Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) in their Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet to operate its new electric vehicle model, the Freightliner eCascadia™. DTNA premiered the fully electrified heavy-duty truck, as well as the Freightliner eM2 106 medium-duty truck, in early June.
As a leading port drayage provider, NFI will incorporate 10 eCascadias into its drayage operations from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to California s Inland Empire, where NFI s logistics portfolio spans more than 15 million square feet. NFI will test the electric vehicles under real-world operating conditions, providing insight to enhance the integration of commercial electric vehicles into its operations.
Social responsibility is a core value at NFI, and our collaboration with DTNA exhibits our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, said Sid Brown, CEO at NFI. NFI strives to continually invest in new, innovative technology that can help improve the impact that NFI and its customers has on the environment. We look forward to further partnering and supporting the California ports and their efforts to improve sustainability and create a cleaner community.
In addition to its partnership with DTNA, NFI has implemented numerous best practices and clean technology to further its dedication to innovation and sustainability. NFI is currently testing electric yard horse units and exploring the viability of class 8 battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Additionally, NFI operates Near Zero compressed natural gas trucks fueled with renewable natural gas and has ordered zero emission trucks to be delivered in 2019.
To further improve its green initiatives, NFI uses battery powered Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), and outfits its dedicated fleet with aerodynamic components to aid in decreasing fuel usage. NFI also administers ongoing tests that focus on key performance indicators like miles per gallon and the Environmental Protection Agency s eight SmartWay emissions metrics. As a result, NFI has been recognized as a three-time award-winning EPA SmartWay partner and SmartWay High Performer.
NFI offers extensive experience providing supply chain solutions across a variety of sectors including retail, food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, and manufacturing. The company s integrated suite of solutions spans dedicated transportation, distribution, brokerage, transportation management, port drayage, intermodal, global logistics, and real estate.
